FIELD TRIAL LABRADOR RETRIEVERS

30-01-2012: Today the puppies are five weeks old, and it is great fun to see them grow. Just over the last week they have developed from being rather clumsy to watch and sleeping all the time to be moving rather well and playing more and more with their toys and each other. Still quite often they go into the sleeping box and have a good rest. The floor is heated and therefore the box is always dry and warm.

The puppies eat very well, and they have taken the gradual transition to dogfood without any problem. Now they are eating the dried puppy food which is soaked in water and stirred with a blender. I must admit that I do like to whisk a tin of cod roe into the mixture, and drop a spoonful or two of sour milk on top. The puppies are crazy with this.

Waggie is seeing her puppies a couple of times each day. She is still very motherly when she is with them. When the puppies moved into the puppy yard about a week ago, Waggie went right into the bottom of the sleeping box where she laid down and allowed the puppies to go ballistic in the milk bar. You only have to insert your finger into the puppies mouths to know how it must feel to be attacked by a shark, so I decided to redo the whelping box with some fresh blankets and let her receive the puppies here in two or three groups. These are fine moments.

Above all Annelise and myself spend a lot of time in play and close contact with the puppies either collectively in the puppy yard or individually or small groups other places in the house.

The weight curve is updated daily (updated 05-07-2025), and right now the smallest puppy (Spiffy) exceeds the average weight of Waggie's first litter of 6 puppies which is shown with the turquoise coloured dotted line in the graph. As I have stated earlier, does this not necessarily imply, that these puppies will be particularly big when they grow up.

Finally - don't forget to visit the puppycam - it is on all the time and you can access it from the menu to the left and see the puppies live.
